SUMMARY:Art Class: Learning to Draw
DESCRIPTION:Event Description: In this course\, Charlie Meeds will teach you how to see and understand art\, to look beyond. He will help you explore through drawing how to think about what you are seeing and not take it for granted. As a result\, you will get more out of a museum\, be able to read a piece of art\, and begin drawing at a deeper\, more meaningful level. This course is comparable to three classes in a Freshman series.\n\n\n\nInstructor: Charlie Meeds will be leading this introductory class. Charlie taught art at LA Tech from 1970-1984 and continues to teach in the community. He has a BA in Fine Arts with a major in painting and print making\, and also hold an MA in Fine Arts. \n\n\n\nArtist Statement: Several years back\, Charlies work was very traditional. He was working primarily with the human head\, doing small copies of old master paintings. He was always transforming paintings to small drawings. At the same time\, he was doing life size head studies of his students. Somehow\, he began doing small pencil/prismacolor imaginary landscapes. There were real objects in an unreal space or unreal things in a real space. These little drawings were done mostly in one setting.\n\n\n\nThere were a few that he would return to and alter\, rearranging them to fit his taste. He is now starting to enlarge the small surreal compositions. For him\, the challenge of solving the problem in placing the elements\, point\, line\, shape\, form\, texture\, value and color in such a manner as to create the principles of design. He carefully considers also balance\, rhythm\, proportion\, unit and emphasis to present an image that invites the viewer to enter a new and different space.\n\n\n\nEvent Cost: Each session is $30 or attend all three for $75.\n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: 11x14 drawing pad\, kneaded eraser\, at least one each Turquoise 2b and 4b pencils. Supplies can purchased Fine Line Supply Co. Water and coffee will be provided.\n\n\n\nDates: November 13\, November 27\, and December 11 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.\n\n\n\nRegistration: To register\, call Laura Maggio at 318-655-4948 or email workshops@rustonartisans.com.
