DESCRIPTION:This is one of several topics being discussed during the Lighten Up Lincoln Parish Community Expo and Wellness Conference.  The entire Expo and Conference is devoted to healthy living.  The schedule is arranged so that you can come to hear a specific speaker or you can stay and hear them all.  There is a business and health expo set up from 8 am - 5 pm that will allow you time to visit in between speakers.\n\nThere are a number of myths and misconceptions about diabetes\, especially as it relates to how people get diabetes and how they should manage it.  An even bigger mystery is the role nutrition and fitness play.  This session will debunk those myths and provide practical information to help practitioners\, patients\, and supporters.\n\nDr. Uma Rangaraj is a physician specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes at The Arthritis and Diabetes Clinic in Monroe.  She graduated medical school in 1975\, is Board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology\, and was an LSU faculty member from 1988 to 2004.
