SUMMARY:Lincoln Parish United: Education Town Hall & Eco-Car Expo
DESCRIPTION:Please join us!\n\n\n\nLincoln Parish United: Education Town Hall Meeting & RHS EcoCar Expo\n\n\nExpo 4:30-6 p.m. with refreshments - in New Tech building at Ruston High School\n\n \n\nTown Hall 6-8 p.m. in Ruston High School Auditorium\n\n \n\nPanelists: Mike Milstead\, LP Schools\; Doug Postel\, Delta Community College\; Rick Gallot\, GSU\; Les Guice\, LA Tech\n\nEach presenter will have 15 minutes\, remainder of time will be Q&A. Questions may be submitted in advance to iflowers@rustonlincoln.org. All questions are not guaranteed to be asked as some topics will be covered by the presenter\, and time may not allow.\n\n\n\nThis event is free and open to the public.\n\n \n\nThe Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce developed the idea of Lincoln Parish United: Where We Stand as a Community and organized annual events for early 2016 and 2017. The purpose of Lincoln Parish United is to create opportunities for local leadership to communicate with one another and with the Lincoln Parish citizens. With the busy lives that most lead\, it's easy to find that we've lost connection with what's going on around us. These events are intended to be somewhat of a one-stop-shop where one can get updated on current and future plans for our community. \n\n \n\nNow that there have been two successful events\, and having received feedback suggesting more detailed meetings\, the Lincoln Parish United format has been changed. Each quarter\, the Chamber will organize a specific LPU Town Hall Meeting which will include question/answer time. The first will be held on Tuesday\, October 10\, 2017\, at Ruston High School and is focused on Education. The next quarterly meetings will focus on Government: Love Your City\, Law Enforcement\, and Business Leaders.\n\n \n\n \n\nAbout RHS EcoCar Program\n\nAs a part of the Bearcat Motorsports Team\, Lincoln Parish students conceive\, design\, and build fuel-efficient cars in an attempt to get the highest gas mileage as a part of the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas Competition. The event\, held in Sonoma California in 2018\, includes universities and high schools from around the United States\, Canada and Mexico. Since its inception in 2012-2013 school year Ruston High has won various awards as well as prize money in the competition. As a part of the team members begin working each Fall on the cars for the next competition using content in math\, engineering\, science and computer programming. Next Tuesday\, prior to the Education Town Hall meeting\, the Bearcat Motorsports team would like to invite the general public to the New Tech Building at Ruston High school to learn more about this award-winning program. Student designed vehicles will be on display as well as team members present to discuss the program.
