DESCRIPTION:The North Central Louisiana Arts Council (NCLAC) invites the public to a screening of the documentary Grab a Hunk of Lightning\, about the life and work of Depression-era photographer Dorothea Lange. The film will be introduced by director and five-time Emmy Winner\, Dyanna Taylor\, who is Lange's granddaughter. This free to the public event will be held Friday\, February 6 at 6pm at the Dixie Center for the Arts in Ruston\, LA. Taylor will introduce the film and engage in a Q&A at its conclusion. \n\n\n\nThis unique opportunity is made possible by a joint effort between Louisiana Tech's School of Design and NCLAC\, with additional sponsorship by Elizabeth English. \n\n\n\nDorothea Lange took the photograph Migrant Mother (1936) that still personifies the Great Depression in America's visual memory.  Lange holds a unique position in the history of documentary photography\, as more than any other artist she sought out and cast a penetrating light upon the misfortunes and maltreatment of Americans of different backgrounds and regions.  \n\n\n\nThe North Central Louisiana Arts Council (NCLAC) and Tech's School of Design encourage you to come discover this complex artist whose vision came to mold both America's national self-image and psyche.  \n\nFor more information contact the NCLAC office at (318)255-1450.
