Ruston Parks and Recreation Department is preparing to host the Eighth Annual Furry Fun Walk. The free event is scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8. The community and their four-legged friends are encouraged to come out and enjoy the natural trails for a stroll through Huckleberry Trails Park and Nature Area on Magnolia. A leash is required for all dogs and they must be up to date on their shots. After the walk, participants will gather in the "Barking Lot" to view items and information available from several local pet vendors and veterinarians. Currently, we are working to make sure there are plenty of giveaways for our participants as well as several demonstrations. As always, there will be time available for furry friends and their owners to visit and play. Sparky, the Ruston Fire Department mascot and Louisiana Tech mascot Champ, will also be participating in the walk. And for anyone wishing to have a keepsake from the event, local artist Cory Carlson will again be on hand to draw caricatures of the animals and their owners, free of charge. Lori Barnes of NatWild Photography will be mingling and taking photos of you and your dog having a peppy time in the park. The morning is dedicated to getting outside and exercising with your furry friend as well as raising awareness about adoption options from the city animal shelter and three local non-profit shelters: 4 Paws Rescue, Inc. and PAWSNELA. The event also attempts to raise awareness about green, natural, organic and safety products for pets.
