Ask A Lawyer with the LA Bar Association

The Lincoln Parish Library, in partnership with the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) and the Louisiana Library Association (LLA), is presenting its second annual "Lawyers in Libraries" statewide program on Thursday, Oct. 23. Paul Lessing, local attorney, will present an Ask-a-Lawyer Program beginning at 9 AM in the library's Lincoln Community Room. The program is free and open to the public, but those interested should contact the Information Desk to reserve a space or visit the library calendar on our website at www.mylpl.org. The "Lawyers in Libraries" program is part of a larger LSBA initiative called the Legal Education and Assistance Program (LEAP) which provides helpful information to the public via public libraries. "I encourage members of the public to reach out to the attorneys in their communities whenever they need legal advice and services. Most people will be able to find a lawyer that they can afford when they need an attorney to handle their legal needs and support them in times of crisis. When someone cannot afford an attorney, the Louisiana State Bar Association is committed to helping those people find an attorney who will represent them for free. Our partnership with the Louisiana Librarians Associations in sponsoring the Lawyers in Libraries Program represents an important initiative to make lawyers accessible to the people who need legal services without any financial obligation." said LSBA President Mark Cunningham. ?In 2014, 125 attorneys representing all 64 parishes in the state provided direct assistance to their community by participating in the "Lawyers in Libraries? program. Based on this success, we expect even more of our members to participate in this year's day of service, and also throughout the year," added Cunningham. The "Lawyers in Libraries" initiative was designed in partnership with the LLA, Law Library of Louisiana, LSU Law Library, and other partners.
