Chambers says the title of the show is derived from the definition of metaphor. When asked about the unusual composition he responded “I depict my characters in moments of contemplation immediately preceding their resulting actions. I also set them in depthless landscapes of saturated color washes thereby leaving each character’s agency and circumstances to be defined by viewers.”
Chambers views his paintings as deeply symbolic and chooses imagery that is tied to both historical and contemporary references. It is his hope that the audience will “inform” their own “meanings and narratives” within his work.
Joshua Chambers received his Masters in Art from Louisiana Tech University in 2009 and currently teaches talented art in Ouachita Parish. His printmaking and paintings have been featured in national and international exhibitions in the United States and Europe. His work has been published in New American Paintings, Creative Quarterly, Studio Visit Magazine, and The Red Clay Survey. He lives in Ruston with his wife and daughter.
