Hercules and the Heroes with the Hampstead Stage Company
The Lincoln Parish Library is excited about the return of the Hampstead Stage Company again for our Summer Reading Program. The Hampstead Stage Company will be hosting a workshop for young actors and actresses in the Library Events Center on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 2:00 pm, followed that evening by a performance of the play Hercules on Saturday, July 18 at 6:00 pm in the Library Events Center. There is no registration and attendance is free and open to the public, so all lovers of theater and Greek heroes will find something to entrance and delight! That evening, our friends from the Hampstead Stage Company will present a mythological play that is both fun and entertaining for the whole family. Let Epictitus, the mask-maker, and Ovid, the poet, take you on a journey of the imagination as you explore the ancient Greek heroes. Follow Greece's greatest hero, Hercules, on his many adventures as he battles mythological creatures and warriors. Through mask work, poetry, and swordplay, viewers will discover the early stories of Greece. This play is designed to bring audience members closer to early civilizations by appreciating the similarities that we all share. This play is a fun family event for all ages. The Hampstead family began its mission to bring education theater experiences to audiences around the country 30 years ago. Since its inception, their company has grown into one of the largest educational touring companies in the nation. Over the years, they have played for about twenty million audience members, performing over two thousand shows a year in all 48 contiguous states. Their interactive educational tours run year-round and are performed by two professional actors, each playing multiple roles. The scripts are original adaptations, based directly on literary classics, and they include children and adults from the audience. The plays last one hour, with a question and answer session following the performance. They also bring their own realistic sets and costumes, designed using extensive historical research, to enrich the educational experience. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, June 30 at 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm in the Library Events Center. We hope to see you there.
