Igor Begelman, clarinet
As a soloist, he has traveled the world, performing extensively across the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and Israel. Now he’s coming to perform in Lincoln Parish. Courtesy of the Piatagorsky Foundation, star clarinetist Igor Begelman will be performing at the Lincoln Parish Library on Saturday, January 14th at 2:00 p.m. in the Library Events Center. This event is free and open to the public, so bring out your music lovers to enjoy this celebration of one of the most versatile of instruments. Igor Begelman was born in the Ukraine but has lived in the United States for almost three decades. He studied at Julliard and the Manhattan School of Music and has since been awarded top prizes at many prestigious competitions, including Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition and the International Clarinet Society Competition. He has performed as a recitalist and a chamber musician in places as various as Moab, Tanglewood, and Schleswig-Holstein. He is an avid proponent of new music and often performs premiers of today’s leading composers. In addition to his active performing schedule, he is also in high demand for master classes. He is a professor at Brooklyn College and Sarah Lawrence College. His connection to the Piatagorsky Foundation allows him to continue his abiding interest in music education by allowing him to teach and perform in less traditional settings. The Piatagorsky Foundation was formed in 1990 with the goal of bringing classical music to smaller venues that wouldn’t normally have access to high quality performers. Since then, the artists have performed for almost 4,000 audiences in non-traditional venues like schools, community centers, hospitals, and libraries. The artists talk about the music they are playing and give information to help the audience interact and appreciate this diverse art form. Begelman will be performing in Louisiana as part of the Piatagorsky Foundation’s efforts. For more information, contact Sarah Creekmore Administrative Assistant at 513-5516 or screekmore@mylpl.org.
