Informational Event, What is Junior Auxiliary? How do I Join?
The ladies of Junior Auxiliary of Ruston seek volunteers 2015-2016
Ruston, LA – “Our first duty is to the children of our own community … if we are to build a better America tomorrow it is with the children on our doorsteps today.”
Junior Auxiliary of Ruston is a group of women who desire to make a lasting difference in Lincoln Parish and the Ruston community by meeting the needs of its citizens, especially children. The chapter was founded in 1981 and received a charter from the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries (NAJA) in 1983. NAJA is a non-profit organization founded in 1941. It has more than 15,000 active, associate and life members in 101 chapters in 8 states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas).
Our chapter administers 10 hands on projects that embody the organization's slogan: "Care Today - Character Tomorrow". Our national focus is “Healthy Children – Healthy Futures”. In order to do these projects, volunteers are needed!
Some of the chapter’s larger projects include Christmas Clearinghouse which pairs deserving children with community sponsors so that each child receives a gift of clothing and/or food; Preschool Puppets “Kindness Matters” teaches children to treat others with kindness and respect; Visit with St. Nick/Peter Cottontail distributes children's books to kindergartners at all public schools. And our newest project Pearl Ball, which is a prom like event for special needs children.
The chapter currently has over 40 active members but more are needed! For more information about joining Junior Auxiliary of Ruston, email Summer Hammons at vp@jaofruston.org or call 318-355-0723. Or you can join us at one of the two Informational Events July 7th and July 26th at University Hall on LA Tech Campus.
“Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see.”
