In February, Wendy Walker Silverman will be a part of a very special exhibition, sale and auction at the venerable Christie’s in New York City. This is the perfect opportunity to see and purchase artwork that will continue to increase in value.” Wendy's paintings are in private collections in Louisiana, Ohio, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon, North Carolina, Washington, and California. Her art has been featured on six album covers to date, and a line of textiles based on her paintings was launched in 2018.
Wendy Walker Silverman grew up in the deep woods of north central Louisiana, which has strongly influenced her work. She attended Louisiana Tech University and received her B.F.A. in Studio Art and is currently residing in Nashville, Tennessee. In her work, Wendy aspires to evoke those rare, transcendent moments of feeling truly present. These moments are often inspired by a strong sense of place, childhood memories, light quality, color and objects from the natural world, which hold a personal, symbolic meaning. “Color, smells, sounds, shapes and tastes are so tightly interwoven in my processing of memory onto canvas that I find myself thinking about tasting notes in wine or olfactory notes in perfumes as I paint. In this body of paintings, my very specific childhood memories are represented in their most distilled, ephemeral form, polished like rocks in a stream by my continued recollection of them. I am conveying to the viewer flashes of these memories through abstraction; my sensory experiences are represented through color, line, texture, and mark-making, leaving space for the observer to contemplate, recall their personal memories, or create their own narratives.” Wendy has also launched a line of gallery-worthy wallpapers and textiles, based on her work.
Ruston Artisans gallery is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Available for appointments during closed business hours. Studio 301 gallery will be available for appointments. Call 318-254-3322 to schedule appointments.
