Ruston Hometown Thanksgiving Concert
Tony Melendez may have been born without arms, but that didn't stop him from dancing, dating, playing the guitar and enjoying life to the fullest. Tony was born without arms in 1962 as a result of his mother taking the prescription drug, Thalidimide. Today, Tony is known around the world for playing the guitar with his feet. In 1985, Tony began playing and singing in the Los Angeles area. Just two years later, his life was changed forever when he performed for the Pope before a live audience of 6,000 people and a TV audience of millions. Tony was instantly thrown into the limelight.
When you see Melendez perform, you understand instantly why he is a "gift of hope" to those who see him. His good humor, easy laughter, self-confidence, deep faith and lack of self-pity convey an amazing inner wholeness and a deep humanity. He sits on a simple chair in the middle of the stage. His guitar lies flat on the floor before him. "I'm a fancy toe-picker," he jests, as he begins strumming with his feet and singing from the heart.
Come to the concert to witness for yourself Tony's astonishing talent. You too will want to give thanks with a grateful heart. The Ruston Hometown Thanksgiving Concert is hosted by the Ruston Area Ministerial Alliance.
