The Buddy Davis Story
Anyone who knows sports in the Ruston/Lincoln Parish area knows Buddy Davis. He has been the guiding light on local sports information since he became the sports editor at the Ruston Daily Leader in 1970. Now, we get to celebrate his life and influence with The Buddy Davis Story at the Lincoln Parish Library Events Center on Tuesday, August 30 at 6:00 PM. Rick Hohlt and Scott Boatwright will be sharing memories and insight with us, as well as many special guests and friends of Mr. Davis, including Fred Dean, Bert Jones, and Willis Reed. This event is free and open to the public, so please join us and celebrate the life of this writer that has had such an influence on our sports history. Buddy Davis has been writing about sports in our area for almost 50 years. In that time, he has enthusiastically covered local and national sports and become close friends with many of the personalities he has covered, including Eddie Robinson, Karl Malone, Terry Bradshaw, and Leon Barmore. He has been recognized many times for his dedication to raising the bar on sports reporting, winning honors such as the title of “Mr. Basketball” from the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches and the Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. You won’t want to miss this special chance to hear about his life, career, and influence! This special event is being held in conjunction with our exhibit, Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America. The Hometown Teams exhibit was created and curated by the Smithsonian Institute’s Museum on Main Street Traveling Exhibition Service. Our exhibit includes the Smithsonian portion and a large portion of local memorabilia lent especially for this series. Lincoln Parish Library is one of six locations in Louisiana that received a grant to display this exhibit through the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
