The history of a time can often be personalized when you bring the specifics of a situation, person, or place to life. Dr. Jason Morgan Ward does exactly that with his new book, The Hanging Bridge: Racial Violence and America’s Civil Rights Century, a book that delves into the history of an infamous bridge in Clarke County, Mississippi, the sight of several lynchings of black people during the Civil Rights struggle in the 20th century. He will be speaking about this topic at the Lincoln Parish Library on Thursday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the Library Events Center as a part of his book tour. This event is sponsored by the Louisiana Tech Department of History and is free and open to the public. Dr. Jason Morgan Ward is an associate professor at Mississippi State University and received his Ph. D. in History from Yale in 2008. He has since written extensively about the Civil Rights movement and race relations in the 20th century in several historical journals. He has also consistently won awards for teaching excellence, including the William E. Parrish Outstanding Teaching Award, Department of History from Mississippi State University.
