Ruston Farmers Market Assistant

The Market Assistant is an independent contractor who aids in the smooth operation of Ruston Farmers Market (RFM) and Drew Jones Teaching Kitchen every week. He or she will manage the operation of a farmers market including management of the facility or space, supplies, new programs, and oversight. 

He or she performs duties under the general direction of the Market Coordinator and the Officers of North Louisiana Farm Fresh (NLFF), the nonprofit that manages the market. 

Required hours are Saturdays from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm, and all other work is completed at the discretion of the coordinator.  Weekly hours range from 7-15 hours a week, averaging 10 hours a week.  

An ideal candidate for the position will: 

  • Have reliable transportation to and from the RFM building
  • Be highly organized and dependable
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Be able to make decisions and solve problems independently
  • Compile basic financial information using Excel
  • Maintain a positive and respectful working relationship with the Market Coordinator, vendors, the board, volunteers, and customers
  • Produce market data reports as required for North Louisiana Farm Fresh Board

Job duties for the position include, but are not limited to:  
On market day (Saturdays): 7:00am - 2:00pm 
    Coordinate setup of vendors for best traffic flow
    Ensure appropriate standards and safety 
    Assess needs of vendors for that day 
    Staff welcome booth: 9:00am- 1:00pm 
    Direct traffic for vendors backing in 
    Assist in setup and tear down of the market 
    Collect vendor fees 
    Collect sales data from vendors 
 

During the week:

  • Market Day setup as needed
  • Classes in the teaching Kitchen Tuesdays/Thursdays: 4pm-8pm.
  • Mid-week market events and programs as needed
