The entertaining, shopping, high expectations, crowds, long lines, absence of family or social connections, late night parties, over-indulgence, being pulled in many different directions – these are only some of the stressors you may face this holiday season. At the end of the season, you can end up feeling exhausted.
There is a solution for holiday stress! Art – no matter whether you choose to create it yourself or simply observe and enjoy it – is a relaxing and inspiring activity for many people. Creating art can be used to relieve stress and relax your mind and body. Art Therapy involves the use of creative techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, coloring, or sculpting to enrich the lives of individuals and families by helping people express themselves artistically, process feelings, and reduce stress and anxiety. When used with a clinician, it can even "decode" the nonverbal messages, symbols, and metaphors often found in these art forms, which could lead to a better understanding of feelings and behavior to resolve deeper issues. This holiday season give yourself the gift that engages your mind, body, and spirit!
